Penumbral Eclipse 3/14/2006

The Earth's shadow has two parts.  The dark inner part is called the umbra and the dimmer outer part is called the penumbra.  When the Moon passes through the fainter outer part it is called a penumbral or partial eclipse.  You can find more information on this eclipse here
